Is there any more room in Cyberspace…..

….for another blog? And more specifically a blog about Email Marketing. I have three observations - let me persuade you:

1) Considering that many businesses I know do not use Email Marketing as a part of their marketing strategy, it seems there is some education necessary on the why Email Marketing is a vital - not optional -tool for business.

2) Considering some of the bland and uninteresting Email Marketing that hits my inbox, it seems some ideas and tips on how to create an effective and engaging email campaign are necessary.

3) Considering that even the most effective of Email Marketers is looking for any competitive advantage to build better relationships and make more sales in their business, we can all benefit from our collective knowledge and experience.

From these observations I know that this blog can assist with three aspects of Email Marketing:

Strategy. Skills. Support.

So if you are lacking in one or more of these areas, then let’s spend some time together learning from each other. And most importantly let’s take some positive action to improve the world’s standard of Email Marketing and communication!

I hope I have justified myself and this blog’s existence in cyberspace and on your screen!

Now over to you - Where are your biggest Email Marketing challenges? What would you most like to see discussed here?

Who is the best Email Service provider?
I have been undertaking research online to determine the best product/service offering and there are alot of companies, offerings and different messages out there…
We want to begin sending regular email blasts on a monthly basis to our database of 2,000+ contacts. But we want to ensure its relevant to them as we don’t want to risk unsubscribes.

    Hi Kylie,

it’s a great question about who is the best email service provider - there are literally hundreds of providers out there. There are also a lot of confusing messages that come from each of those providers. So it’s important to know what you want from an Email Provider before you start getting confused by the “sales talk”.

I would suggest first writing down:
    1) Features you know you want
    2) What service levels you will require
    3) The price you are willing to pay

Once you have that clear in your own mind, you’ll be in a position to narrow down the field of email service providers. You can then start to do some research online, maybe speak to a couple on the phone. They may have some good ideas of features that you hadn’t thought about before. But make sure they are practical for what you want to do. There’s no point in paying for a Porsche if you really need a Ute! Even though the Porsche looks a lot nicer!

Then you will want to look at the provider’s reputation, and make sure their deliverability is good. It’s no use sending emails if no one receives them.

You have the right idea with keeping it relevant - you want to engage your readers and build relationships with them via email. If you send out irrelevant information, then they will turn off very quickly and many of them won’t tune back in.

I wouldn’t worry so much about unsubscribes (except if they are unsubscribing because your content is irrelevant!). Whilst it’s nice to have a big, fat list - if many of those readers are not interested in what you have to say and will never buy from you, it’s not a bad thing if they unsubscribe. It helps you track your email open rates and marketing success far better. if you are dealing with inflated numbers, it’s harder to gauge the success of your marketing.

But that said, you obviously don’t want people unsubscribing if you can keep them interested, so keep the content great (not just always adverts) and you’ll be well on the way!

There are two Providers I use and recommend and am affiliated with as I like their services so much. If you want Australian-based support then I suggest Email Newsletters (www.emailnewsletters.com.au). The price for being in Australia is a bit higher, but there are associated benefits of dealing local. If you want a lower price with loads of features, I suggest Email Marketing Software (www.emailmarketingsoftware.com.au). Their support is US-based.

    Hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Cheers,

    Luke
